This is how the new Doom should be like…

In 2011, the team at id Software made many references to a possible “Doom 4” for months. I even wrote an article on July 20th, 2011, titled “How to revive the Doom franchise” based on the teasing, references to a possible “Doom 4.” Then on June 10th, 2014 – Months before QuakeCon 2014 was about to start, a teaser trailer of a supposed “Doom 4” reveal had thrust onto the internet.

Once QuakeCon 2014 came around, there was a short trailer showcased to fans, the members of the media, journalists, and bloggers – behind closed doors. Some YouTubers even uploaded off-screen footage of the new Doom. It’s no longer “Doom 4,” it’s simply “Doom.” It’s a reboot of the franchise. Ever since, Bethesda, and id Software has been mute, quiet, even.

Elsewhere, a devout fan of the Doom franchise had been working on a mod for Doom, called “Brutal Doom.” The mod shows exactly what makes “Doom” so special, so menacing, so.. brutal. Be forewarned, the videos posted below are extremely violent. Please press the “X” button if you don’t have the stomach to watch. Otherwise, enjoy…

Ignore the frame drops. Anyway, as you can see, the difficulty level has been cranked so high, that if you walk into a new room full of demons, you have to think fast, and on your feet. Otherwise you’re a fried potato. In the next video, it shows just how fluid the game can be if you work for it…

If these videos don’t give you any idea of how the “Doom” reboot should be like, then I don’t know what does. To me, this mod shows exactly what the new Doom should be like. Fast, frantic, brutal, and all around scary.
